Turkey Tips

SIZE Allow 1½ pounds (680g) of turkey per person for generous servings plus leftovers. (Note 2 lbs. per person for frozen pre-stuffed turkey)

THAWING Thaw in the refrigerator. Allow one day of thawing for every four pounds (1.82kg) of turkey. (DO NOT THAW PRE-STUFFED TURKEY)

ROASTING The Butterball experts recommend roasting the turkey uncovered, on a flat rack, in a shallow pan so it cooks evenly. For a beautiful golden finish rub with canola oil before roasting.

DONENESS The turkey must reach minimums of 180°F (82°C) deep in the thigh and 165°F (74°C) in the centre of the stuffing.

Ingredients

1 Tbsp dried oregano
1 Tbsp dried basil leaves
1 Tbsp paprika
2 tsp thyme
2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground allspice
3–4 Tbsp canola oil


Cooking Instructions

1. Mix spices with canola oil.

2. Rub into the turkey skin.

3. Roast turkey according to Butterball directions.

5. Press, rotate and press again until thin.

6. Heat a griddle or cast iron skillet to a medium high heat. Cook until slightly brown on the bottom (about 30 seconds to a minute). Flip and cook on the other side. Make sure not to overcook.
