It was a snowy day in 1977… wait, seriously? Snow? It’s true, Toronto’s first pitch fell through snowflakes instead of sunshine. An unexpected debut for the Blue Jays but a game that was unmistakably Canadian.
Today, fifty seasons later, the Blue Jays continue to surprise and thrill fans everywhere. There are countless moments that live in highlight reels, and personal memories so many of us have that just don’t fade. The excitement has been passed down through generations, and last year, well, that was unbelievably awesome. The comebacks. The noise. The 2025 American League Championship! Another great beginning… and the best is yet to come!

Celebrate the legendary 1992 and 1993 Blue Jays!
On October 24, 1992, baseball fans around the world heard the iconic phrase, “For the first time in history, the World Championship banner will fly north of the border!” One year later, the Blue Jays did it again, becoming just the 7th club in MLB to capture back-to-back World Series titles, winning it all in both 1992 and 1993.
This summer, the Blue Jays are honouring the Back-to-Back World Series titles with a statue of Joe Carter at Rogers Centre. Joe’s depiction in the statue represents the first World Series won on Canadian soil and his famous walk-off home run in 1993, while the statue is symbolic of the back-to-back championships and a tribute to both the 1992 and 1993 teams.
Make plans to be there, when the Blue Jays unveil the statue outside Rogers Centre, between Gates 5 and 6, on July 18 in a special pregame ceremony with alumni honouring the two championship teams!

BLUE JAYS HONOUR BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES TITLES WITH STATUE AT ROGERS CENTRE
1992 and 1993 championship teams recognized as part of club’s 50th season celebration in 2026
As shared on Feb 2, 2026, across the Blue Jays’ social channels, Blue Jays’ President & CEO Mark Shapiro and President Emeritus Paul Beeston told Joe Carter the news of the statue.
“The Blue Jays have a rich and storied history in the fabric of Canadian sport, and the back-to-back World Series championships will forever have a special place in the hearts and minds of sports fans across the country,” said Shapiro. “As we embark on our 50th season, this statue is emblematic of baseball greatness in Canada and will be shared with fans for generations to come.”
“My teammates from ’92 and ’93 are a special group, and we all understood what it meant to play for an entire country. We felt such pride wearing the maple leaf on our uniforms. Fans embraced us, and we loved them right back. This statue is for the fans,” said Carter.
As part of the Promotions & Events schedule, the first 15,000 fans on July 18 will receive a set of ’92 and ’93 World Series replica rings. Plus, on Monday, Aug. 10, there will be a back-to-back replica statue giveaway (first 15,000 fans).
The Blue Jays will be hosting a season-long celebration honouring the club’s 50th season, including a 50th season commemorative retro patch worn on player uniforms, and additional fan experience installations at Rogers Centre that honour the history of the franchise.
