Taking the Stage in PEI
In the heart of historic downtown Charlottetown, the Confederation Centre of the Arts is more than a theatre. It’s a vibrant cultural attraction where people come together for fun and entertainment, exploring Canada’s identity through performance and visual arts.
Opened on October 6, 1964, by Queen Elizabeth II, the Centre occupies an entire city block and is conveniently located just a short walk from the waterfront, nearby restaurants and hotels. While designated a National Historic Site, it is also a lively and energetic destination, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Together with Indigenous partnerships that include First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists including the Mi’kmaq people of Epekwitk in Mi’kma’ki, Confederation Centre of the Arts offers a genuine experience not to be missed.
A Musical Theatre Legacy
One of the Centre’s most celebrated traditions is the Charlottetown Festival, Atlantic Canada’s longest running theatre festival since its first season in 1965. Every summer, the Sobey Family Theatre draws audiences from across the globe for its acclaimed musical productions that showcase Canadian storytelling and maritime voices. The 2026 season is no exception, bringing two major productions: Anne of Green Gables–The Musical™, and Come From Away.

Anne of Green Gables–The Musical™ – A Prince Edward Island Icon Returns
Inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved novel, this musical production is as much a part of the Island as its red sand beaches and world class seafood. For many, seeing Anne in Charlottetown is a meaningful experience, closely linked to childhood stories of breathtaking PEI landscapes and the wild adventures of the spirited red-haired orphan.
Celebrating 57 years of performances in 2026, Anne of Green Gables is the world’s longest running annual musical, offering an enduring story that continues to capture hearts and imaginations, just like its namesake. As it builds on decades of success, the production continues to add refreshed choreography and design, while introducing new talent that will leave the audience delighted and entertained.
Anne of Green Gables–The Musical™ plays select dates from June 25- Sept. 5.
Sensory Friendly Show Sept. 1.
Come From Away – A Global Sensation
Also, on the Charlottetown stage in 2026, Come From Away shares a very different type of story, but one that is equally imprinted on the hearts of people around the world. Based on the events of September 11, 2001, the musical tells the tale of the thousands of stranded airline passengers who were welcomed by the small town of Gander, Newfoundland.
Audiences will be given a glimpse into the lives of both the passengers and the community as they deal with fear, confusion and kindness in this emotionally charged situation. Written by Tony Award nominated Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein.
Come From Away plays select dates from July 2- Sept. 26.
Beyond the Main Stage
Alongside the festival’s major productions, Confederation Centre is also hosting C’mon In! An Island Kitchen Party at The Mack, a smaller, more intimate venue. This performance invites you into an island kitchen party, where you will witness the stories and music of a true east coast evening. You’re sure to be entertained. C’mon In! An Island Kitchen Party plays select dates from June 6- Aug. 29.

Families won’t want to miss a chance to see Polkaroo at the Confederation Amphitheatre as Polka Dot Door presents a free musical adventure on select dates from July 16 to August 22 as part of the 2026 Charlottetown Festival. This nostalgic experience will captivate audiences young and old, with the stories, songs and playful fun that have shaped generations of Canadian children.
